Chip off the old block
Nothing will ever replace the importance of hard work. The sweat off your brow, calluses on your hands... At the end of the day to see what you built. That’s how I was brought up.
Sometimes your hands are full, sometimes you have a heavy heart, sometimes you can't think straight, sometimes it's just seems like a big task. What do you do then ? Well I am thinking of keep going, not sure which direction yet, but will figure out or will try to figure out on my way. What say?
I’m so grateful to everyone who showed me ❤️❤️❤️ since I started making a fuss about turning 40. Been reflecting a whole lot the past few months on not just 40 but the turns my life took or could’ve taken had certain things went one way instead of another.
-Like when my Pops chose early retirement from the only job he ever had in Chicago instead of moving with the company to Tulsa, OK when they downsized.
-Like if we stayed in Chicago instead of moving to Miami.
-Like if my Pops never got cancer.
-Like if I don’t get in the car accident on my way to work one summer morning in ‘02 that wound up providing me the financial capability needed to make a bold move to NYC which quite possibly saved my life but most definitely gave me a genuine sense of direction during some personally lost times.
-Like if I stayed in advertising & never took DJing past the level of enthusiast to become a professional.
-Like if the guy at UK Passport Control allowed me to re-enter back when I lived there & was legally returning from a trip abroad instead of giving me 48 hours to grab as much of my shit as possible & immediately return to NYC.
-Like if my first boss in the ad game rehired me upon returning to NYC as she looked me in the eye & said she would instead of telling my former co-worker I was high on a powder I’ve to this day never tried during our meeting thus ignoring all subsequent follow up phone calls & emails.
Took me a minute to break all this down & piece it back together but I realize the “bad” breaks & left turns were merely just life’s way of keeping me grounded in the grand scheme and how I reacted to those turns has defined me more than the turns themselves. The most exciting yet terrifying part about entering my 40s is I’m just beginning to scratch the surface both as a person and professional. I didn’t think I had a musical bone in my body when I started DJing at 29. I’ve always been a late-bloomer so I look forward to my 40s bringing much prosperity stayin on the grind understanding full well things will not 100% go as planned & that may very well be a good thing in the end. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ 📸:: @mpmarcita
