Using (and reusing) materials like reclaimed wood means less waste, less extracting earth’s resources, and higher quality. When these space available signs first appeared in parking structures I assumed there was an induction loop in each stall, like the individual parking sensors documented in my August 25, 2017 post. Obviously I was wrong.
It's a much simpler reality. Sensors count vehicles as they enter and exit each level, and basic arithmetic allows deduction of how many there are. Granted, not all of the cars on a given level are parked—some could be trolling for spots—but this is accurate enough for parking space hunting. 🤔
This is a simpler, smarter solution than wiring every space, requiring less hardware and cost. But it does mean you'll find the occasional negative hiccup like this. 🤓
