Howto of the day: Forced Rhubarb
This Project was first published in DHMS in May 2002 and now appears in full in my Challenges book Part 2. There is also a mature rhubarb plant in my Gardens book.
I passed some chocolate coloured Fimo and a pre mixed lighter brown mix through my pasta maker on the thinnest setting. I used shredded clay to simulate the old foliage and mulch around the base of the new buds.
The rhubarb stalks and the buds are quite a bright pink and so I used a much brighter pinkish red rather than a dark red for the skin.
When you have lengthened it (very carefully) by smoothing alternate faces of the four sided cane leave it a little short of the required thinness for the main rhubarb stalks and close the skin over the end to form little cones. These cones will form the 'buds' of rhubarb which are just emerging. You can make the stalks by thinning down even more. Don't ask me how thin to make them, just keep going until they snap!
Cut out tiny circles of the thinnest possible translucent green. If you have a leaf veiner you can vein and then crumple the leaf.
If not, you can attach the leaf to the end of the stalk and then simply crumple the leaf over the end slightly curling the end as if the whole thing is just unfolding. These stalks should be oven set before adding to the mound.
The buds you made earlier should be stuck on to the top of the mound and extremely thin shavings of the caramel colour should be put around it. These should be shaved off your colour mix with a single sided blade. Then you can put two or three emerging stalks of different lengths surrounding the bud.

Don’t forget to remind yourself how far you’ve come. I stopped waiting for some of the most important people in my life to tell me they are proud of me.. they approve of me.. they see how far I’ve come.. and started telling myself! 😅👏🏼👏🏼
“Andrea, I’m so proud of you.. I see how far you’ve come, and I know it hasn’t been easy. Through the process of becoming you have developed an unshakable inner strength.. and I see you. I love you. I’m proud of you.” 🤗😌
I used to be really hung up on the fact that I never hear this from my father.. or other very important people in my life.. I’ve experienced more feelings of disapproval, disappointment, and just lack of support (emotional) since beginning down my own path.. it used to feel like my heart was torn wide open, feeling a void where that Love used to be.. it’s totally normal to desire our parents approval, or even to hear from them that they ARE in fact proud of us, whether we are living the life that they envisioned for us or not.. test we can do this with so many people in our lives!! STOP WAITING FOR APPORVAL. STOP WAITING FOR VALIDATION. FIND WHAT YOU LOVE AND FOLLOW YOUR HEART!!! It felt damn near impossible in the beginning to actually do what *I* really wanted to do without worrying about letting someone else down, or not being understood by others.. THIS IS YOUR LIFE! LIVE IT HOW YOU WANT TO!! I love you. 💗☺️🙏🏼🌟✨
By the way, this is a posture I used to believe I would never be able to get this far into.. (swipe to see me getting into it) practice, patience, persistence and non-attachment to ‘results’ or ‘getting there’.. enjoy the journey baby!! There is no finish line.. everywhere you go there you are. Work on loving YOU first. Work on accepting YOU first.. then you can extend that same love and acceptance out to the world. 🌎💗🙌🏼✨
So this week was a big week!! The start of a new adventure as the WA State Manager for Lovisa! Lovisa has provided me with so many opportunities over the years but this is by far my proudest achievement. Excited is an understatement! #ladyboss#leadership#challenges#growth#success#pride
And it's been six months since I got here on this side of the world. 6 months of changes, uncertainties, learning, a lot of rush, a lot of work, few hours of sleep sometimes. Today 6 months have passed since I do not see many of the people I love, 6 months I learned to live with longing and especially to live more with my company and look, what good company hein 😜. Life has taught me that to live one step at a time, is worth much more. You are amazed at the things that happen because although you wait for the best, you do not have formed expectations about your future. It's not that I do not plan .. it's just that I believe the best, always will reach me. For those who believe, work hard and are correct, things always tend to work, even with some problems along the way. Life in Australia is not like the American dream ... hahaha has hard work, fatigue and much study. But on the other hand, I walk on the train and on the street in the quiet night, knowing that I will get home safely. The opportunity to meet people from all corners of the world and incredible places. And can I tell you? I love my days here. I know a lot of people would like to have that same opportunity. See you soon Brazil! ❤️😘 #maistemponaaustralia#braziliangirl#folowingmydreams#love#hapiness#instapic#daybyday#challenges#adelaide#southaustralia # 17/02/2018
I started a blog to share my life and experiences. I didn’t expect one so deep and emotional, I decided to make a post about my miscarriage. If you’re interested in reading it visit my blog (link in bio). It was an emotional post for me but I also feel it’s something women that experience should never hold in. #miscarriage#miscarriageawareness#love#life#baby#challenges#thewanderdiary
Relax there’s a woman on the job!
I stayed up until 3 am this morning finishing up a painting and then woke up at 5:30 am to hang up said paintings.(don’t worry I’m about to nap after I post this)
I’m a busy lady with a full time day job as a department manager and a coaching business that is soon to be my solo full time gig. On top of my two jobs I volunteer at a local radio station, that I will be having my first DJ set on sometime next month. In October I’ll be volunteering at my favorite film festival for the third year in a row. I’m Working on building my coaching website to get my page verified on Instagram. Soon a YouTube channel with my partner is coming, where we will be documenting our relationship as well as our journey of conception. I’m starting to get into modeling for art projects. And lastly I’m in the very infancy stages of working with a ghost writer on a book about my life that will eventually be a graphic novel. I’ve got a lot going for me and I wouldn’t want it any other way! The one thing that I absolutely have to point out though; I make my health and fitness priority number one. I work out every morning before my work day because, at the very least, if things don’t go according to plan or whatever, I at least took care of me. This is how I maintain sanity and balance in this busy life! Part of my fitness isn’t just working out and eating vegetables. It also includes personal development and constantly working on my mindset muscle, just like any muscle in your body, once you get it in shape you have to keep maintaining and challenging it! -
I’m not “hardcore” I just care about how I spend my time in this life and in this body. I’m just a regular person! It’s so hard for me to talk to people and hear them say they don’t have time or money to invest in themselves. I call bullshit. You absolutely do, you’re just letting other shit get in the way. -
💪 And here we go...summer break is officially over for me come Monday and I’m full on back into my social work life. Therefore, Evolve will be taking a bit of a backseat for the school year. What does this mean? Of course you can still order from me and make appointments but posts will be much fewer and my time will be more limited. I so appreciate all of the support I’ve received from so many of you as I go through this life transition, thank you! ♥️ Always evolving, right? 😉
