Last night I met an icon.
As a child I wrestled with my identity and growing up mixed race I really craved representation I could relate to. Mariah Carey was that representation for me. When I first discovered her it was love at first sight. Here was a bi-racial woman with a skin tone like mine and hair like mine. I listened to her albums on repeat and still do. (I know EVERY word & adlib). It’s impossible for me to pick a favorite track but “Outside” from her “Butterfly” album speaks about identity and the longing to belong so beautifully.
Whomever coined the phrase “you should never meet your heroes” had the wrong hero. Meeting @mariahcarey was simply EVERYTHING. She was gracious, welcoming, kind and funny as hell. Thank you Mariah 🖤
